15K+ criminals will be released early by the end of the year onto Britain’s streets.

The main duty of any government is to protect its citizens, keep its citizens safe from threats at home and abroad.

Throughout history that is how all systems have been judged.

Which is why we should look very carefully at what is happening in Britain.

Last week the new Labour government announced it would be releasing 5,500 prisoners early. The Justice Secretary, Shabana Mahmood insisted the government had ‘no option’ but to release prisoners after they had served only 40% of their sentence. Will soft on crime Shabana take any responsibility for the criminals she is releasing back on to Britain’s streets?

This decision is an extension of a scheme called The End of Custody Licence or ECSL which was launched in October 2023 under the Conservatives. The scheme allowed prisoners to be released up to 18 days before the end of their sentence, this was then extended to 35 days, and then again to 70 days.

At the time of this schemes introduction, Judges were told not to even jail criminals. During the period of October 17th and June 30th, the Conservatives released 10,000 prisoners early.

The excuse for releasing prisoners early and not jailing people at all is that Britain’s prisons are overcrowded and that there is no time to build new prisons before they overflow.

This is not an adequate excuse. It’s a complete dereliction of duty and it is endangering you and your family.

China built a hospital for 1000 patients in 10 days in 2020. Britain built a prison for 1700 prisoners in 45 weeks. There are also prisons such as Shrewsbury Prison which was closed only in 2013, now operating as a tourist destination, Shrewsbury could be reopened given the circumstances.

Politics is about action, and if the system and the people elected to run that system cannot act to build more prisons then it should be clear they do not care for our safety.

We will be keeping track and highlighting prisoners who have been released early by this rotten system who then go on to commit more crime. I’m sure there will be many.

Our country is headed in the wrong direction, but we can choose a different path. We need an entirely new system and political class. Join me.
